The French Meal

On a wet and windy Monday night (26th November) 30  braved the elements and enjoyed an
“Authentic 5 course French Meal” in the Church Room.

The evening started by Rev. Canon Frank offering “grace” in French and then the food came, wine flowed and Bonhomie was everywhere.  The event came about through the inspiration and leadership of Linda, who together with her “Team” decorated the Church Room, prepared and served the delicious food. We were entertained by Revd. Annie with French “Chansons” between courses and each table challenged to identify the major French towns and cities. The winning Team scored an impressive 28 out of 36 – or should that read “ could do better !!” and won a pot of Gold Coins (chocolate of course)

The profits from this enjoyable French Affair will go towards the renovation of the Trevelyan Window Appeal, results of which will be posted once expenses / costs have been settled.

Over the past years themed meals have included Italian, Indian and now French –
what will be next ??

The Trevelyan Window Appeal

The Coffee Morning which launched the window appeal on Saturday 10th November raised a remarkable £1,332 - a truly magnificent result and a HUGE THANK YOU to all who supported this event in so many ways - those who came and sponsored a "piece of stained glass", the cake and raffle prize providers and the coffee "team".

The total cost of the restoration is £5,000 and we plan to continue fund raising to help achieve this goal,

There are plenty of pieces of glass available to sponsor .........................................so

If you would like to sponsor a further piece of stained glass or purchase a limited edition card of the window, please call Dave Ellis on 01736 711248.

MANY THANKS

THE CHURCH CLOCK

The Church Clock mechanism relies on 3 weights being wound each week from the botton to the top of the tower - this task in recent times has been dilegently done by a Team of Clock Winders -  Martin Holland, Des Astin, David Somers, Jonathan Green, Christopher Ball, Rob Braybrooks, David Sharp and Michael Ball.

Now thanks to a very generous gift from Meg and Ivan (Pinfield) and DAC "Faculty"  approval an  automatic winding system has been installed.  A plaque marking this generous act has been prepared and following the required Faculty approval will be displayed within the Church.

The photographs show the mechanism of the clock which remains the same and the 3 special motors that automatically wind the weights. The installation was by The Cumbria Clock Company who have been responsible for the maintainance and servicing of the clock for many years. Luke, was the young engineer responsible for the installation and commissioning of the new mechanism.

Good News Gang's News

The Good News Gang met on Thursday. We're a Young People's Christian group (ages 5 - 16yrs) that meets once a month to prepare art, drama, music and craft for the Family Services.

This meeting we made origami houses (see picture) and read Mark 13 1-9 about building our lives on solid foundations and not getting too overawed by worldly things. We prayed for Aiyana (who is to be baptised at the Family Service on 18 November) and her family and sang some of the songs we'll have at the service.
Next GNG will be on Thurs 6th December 5:15 - 6:30pm.
 Hope to see you there.
